A concertina book version of the 'vezels' print created while artist-in-residence at Industriemuseum, Gent, Belgium. It is the fifth iteration of the Typographic Landscape series, considering how experience of place can be represented using the materials of typography and letterpress printing.

I had visited Gent several times over the past ten years but this was the first time I was able to spend significant time exploring the city, its histories and talk with people who live and work there. Spending a week immersed in the museum's fifth floor drukkerij was hugely valuable, allowing me to create a print that reflects my experience of the city and the print studio. The final print - run through the press eight times - incorporates the mapping of canals, the proximity of the former dock area, weather events and conversations held with museum staff.

'Vezels' is the Dutch word for 'fibres' and the notion of this material, its origins and the way they are woven together seemed like a suitable mirror for the process of building up a printed piece.
