'Cities Look Like Teeth'
2024 'Cities Look Like Teeth' is an artist’s book chronicling a decade of travels across Europe incorporating laser-cut photography and letterpress-printed text responses. From Copenhagen to Milan, from Lyon to Novi Sad, I toured with bands as musician, tour manager, driver, merch seller; the book is thus an interrogation of location, memory and chronology. Each city is represented by a photograph taken during a visit and a poetic text-fragment written during or afterwards. Twenty cities are included in the book, but I visited many more - a full list is below. Launch events:
September 21st, 4pm: York Centre for Print November 29th, evening: Leicester Print Workshop These events will include a talk about the book, slideshow, Q&A and an opportunity to view the book itself. Please contact me if you'd like to host an event. Technical notes: - The images are rastered directly into the paper by the laser-cutter. That means each sheet is put into the laser-cutter and the image is burnt into the paper. It's a direct method, rather than laser-cutting another element from which the final image is then reproduced. My thanks to Helen Wood at Bradford School of Art for her technical support. - The texts were printed letterpress from hand-set founder's type using a Vandercook 4, also at Bradford School of Art. - My thanks to Roger Grech for his help in finalising the hardback binding. Shipping notes: - Book will ship within 5 days, assuming I'm not travelling. - Buyers are responsible for any local customs or import charges. - If you'd prefer to arrange to collect at a fair, then please get in touch first or put a note in the order comments. I'll happily refund the postage. - Contact me for multiple orders and/or if you'd prefer to pay by bank transfer. Locations visited (2008-2019) - English spellings
